Racing cars before the starting signal
Before the motorcycles were sent off at Saxtorp in 1939, DKW star Ewald Kluge drove a demonstration lap in an Auto Union Grand Prix car. Later that day, the car was shown again alongside Rudolf Caracciola’s Mercedes—before around 150,000 spectators. For many, the motorcycle race was therefore also a rare encounter with the fastest racing cars of the era.
