Size Size chart 30x40

Canvas painting with John Bauer's painting The Magic Herb from 1912. A troll with long, green hair hands a magic herb to the boy in the forest.

On the back of the original painting is the text: " Here you will get a piece of a magic herb, which (no one) but I can look for". The picture was published with the story The Boy Who Never Was Afraid by Alfred Smedberg in Among Elves and Goblins in 1912.

The story is about a boy who sets out to find the croft's only dairy cow that the goblins have taken. Undaunted, he managed to get on good terms with the horrible creatures he encountered in the forest, and with their help he managed to free the cow.

John Bauer is known for his fairy tale motifs with trolls and princesses and he has had a great influence on Swedish folklore and storytelling.

Artist: John Bauer | Created: 1912.
