The story behind the motif

Poster with motifs from the classic fairy tale Thumbs up, written by the world famous Danish author H.C. Andersen. Thumbs up, originally published in 1835, is one of Andersen's most beloved stories. The illustrations from this edition from the year 1924 are drawn by none other than the Swedish icon Elsa Beskow, whose work as an author and illustrator has become a classic in Swedish children's literature.

The story is about a tiny girl, no bigger than a thumb, who is called Thumbelina. Born from a magical flower, she encounters a series of challenges and creatures on her journey, from the dark pond of a toad to the underground realm of a mole. Through her selflessness, her courage and her longing for freedom, she finally finds her place in the world and the love of a flower fairy prince.

H. C. Andersen is one of the world's most famous fairy tale writers, and his works have been translated into countless languages and loved by generations. His fairy tales, including Thumbelina, often carry deeper messages about life, love and human nature, wrapped in enchanting and imaginative narratives.

This poster is a tribute to H.C. Andersen and Elsa Beskow. It fits perfectly in the children's room or as a nostalgic reminder for all adults who grew up with H.C. Andersen's fairy tales.
