The studio that was bricked up
The photography firm Dahllöf & Hedlund is credited with the photograph and had its studio in Tomtehuset. The building was constructed in 1890 with an entire upper floor for photography, but in 1920 the studio’s large windows facing Vasagatan were bricked up when the floor was converted into housing.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a team of horse and carriage in front of Tomtehuset, Vasagatan in Gothenburg. The photograph was taken by Dahllöf & Hedlund in the 1890s.

Tomtehuset was built in 1890 for the publicist and parliamentarian Sven Adolf Hedlund, based on drawings by the architects Hans Hedlund - nephew of Sven Adolf - and Yngve Rasmussen. The house has been a listed building since 25 October 1982.
