One of the Final Series
This painting belongs to one of Boudin’s final and most unusual series. During his lifetime, he made only five harbour scenes from Deauville with festively decorated boats; the others date from 1895–1897. Boudin died in 1898, and the painting was subsequently sold at the major studio sale in Paris the following year.

The story behind the motif

Poster with the painting Yacht Basin at Trouville-Deauville created between 1895 and 1896.
The painting is by the French artist Eugène Boudin. He was a landscape painter and is considered a forerunner of Impressionism.

In the picture we see several sailboats full of different flags. Boudin has created a beautiful color scheme with the sailboats' flags that are also reflected in the calm water.

The scene of the painting takes place in Trouville-Deauville, which is located in the Normandy region in northern France. It was in the Normandy region that Boudin was born in 1824.
